For the past 2 days my tasks of constructing exams for my students is one of the hardest for a teacher in public high schools. You may think that doing social studies tests is the most easiest one; identification. enumeration give the name and dates etc. But times are changing really also its my personal vow to remove the denotation that social studies is just memorization. Also education department is also implementing to do competency based tests.
But the real problems roots to the textbooks I am using we know the fact the rampant errors of Philippine textbooks as we heard in the news. I am not alone to the many Araling Panlipunan teachers who face the this problems. Even I read alot to erase the errors still I cant avoid that those students reading those books may be absorbing the errors.
I know good historians in our country and other educators. But still instead of just saying your collections of old books and being a great historian who traveled to the primary sources of history, how about they try addressing this issue. Of course those historians are not interested in writing textbooks. But you must think that one of the reasons why the students are not interested in Araling Panlipunan is not only due to the teachers but to the books and materials that the subject I teach lacks. Hope I got a point this time. What do u think?
In other side, we got an internet cafe just about less a kilometer walk from our house. So I need no bother to go to poblacion to get online. At least seems the people here are interested now in the internet. And as I asked the owner, she said that the cafe is not loosing any clients as of their opening last week.
So far later this night, I need to finish my tests. At least before monday begins, I am ready now to submit it. Still I hope those people who said they love and care for history think again of stressing to students the importance of Araling Panlipunan with books accurate and up to date and of course conforms with the competencies issued by the education department.
